Avenue Habib Bourguiba divided in Martyrs’ Day commemoration
The annual Martyrs’ Day remembering events of April 9, 1938, was commemorated in 2014, on avenue Habib Bourguiba in Tunis, by Tunisian people in the division. It was marked by the march of the families of those wounded and killed in the Tunisian revolution, who protested against the delay in the military judgement of the killers of their relatives. On the same avenue, supporters of the Popular Front and Unified Democratic Patriots Party rallied, demanding the truth in the murder of Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi. On the other side of the avenue, members of the League for Protection of the Revolution (LPR), protested against the imprisonment of activist Imed Dghij sentenced to eight months in prison for threatening and inciting violence. While at the same time and same place, Adel Almi president of islamist party « Tounes Ezzaytouna » gave a popular speech on Avenue Habib Bourguiba in Tunis. Adel Almi is a controversial politician aiming to legalize polygamy which is prohibited.
